Hello, my old heart.

An open letter to 16-year old me on the eve of her 32nd birthday.

It gets better.

All of it.

Your hair. Your skin. Your relationships. Everything going on in that busy head.

It all gets better.

It gets so much better that you will find yourself staring in a mirror a lifetime from now in a place you could never imagine, thinking…damn.

If you caught a glimpse of almost 32 you, it would be equal parts intimidation and pure awe. You’ve never met someone like who you get to become.

All of your weird becomes all of the best parts of you. Don’t think otherwise for even a second.

The boy you’re crushing on who you don’t think notices you, definitely does. He just won’t be man enough to tell you for another decade so stop letting him, and the others to come along like him, be a distraction.

You are the prize you’re hoping to find.

As for everything that’s holding you down and troubling your mind, it all heals itself in time. This gives you empathy, which you’ll need. And patience becomes your forte.

The beauty of seeing things through will become one of your favorite observations, and some of your very best work.

When someone asks you to release the walls you’ve strategically built around your heart sooner than you are ready for, trust your discernment. She never once fails you, while those who ask this of you most definitely will.

You are wise and graceful and these traits will continually reveal themselves in ways that are unexplainable now.

Sweet girl, you are magic.

Don’t bother with those who don’t see it and especially, with those who can’t believe.

The Universe, and all it contains, is yours and already inside of you. This is why at times it feels like you may burst at the seams.

You won’t.

Be still. Watch it all unfold at your command and always be ready to receive more and more layers of you.

Happy birthday, little wonderer. The present you wish for this year is so much closer than it seems.✨

“Nothing lasts forever.
Some things aren’t meant to be.
But you’ll never find the answers,
until you set your old heart free.
Until you set your old heart free.

Hello, my old heart.”🖤
